Become an Apprentice

ApprenticeNYC will soon be offered for Advanced Manufacturing occupations. For this specific opportunity, the city-sponsored apprenticeship will last 12 months and consist of over 400 hours of in-person, hands-on training at MakerSpace NYC, and over 1500 hours of on-the-job training.  

Apprentices participating in the Advanced Manufacturing program are expected to stay with their employers after the city-sponsored portion ends, to continue their long-term career in the Advanced Manufacturing industry.

Application requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Reside in New York City

  • Earn $50,000 or less annually

  • Meet Federal Selective Service Requirements (if applicable).

  • Pre-Apprenticeship: This initial four-week phase combines independent study with practical sessions, culminating in the chance to earn a Manufacturing Certification (CMfgA).

  • Classroom Training: Over the next 12 weeks, participants receive compensation while engaging in hands-on, project-based learning in the classroom.

  • On-the-Job Training: The final 40 weeks are spent gaining hands-on experience at a partner employer's facility, complemented by related technical instruction for ongoing professional growth and skill development.
